From Teaching to Trading: How I Transformed My Life Through Options
Picture this: I'm in Costa Rica, teaching English at an international school, and realizing I need to make a major change to create the future I want for my son. I knew I had to move back home, but I had no idea what I’d do when I go there. Trading options? That seemed like something for Wall Street experts, not a teacher with a passion for education. But here's what I discovered - sometimes the best opportunities come from unexpected places...
Becoming an Options Trader
It was my father that first suggested suggested I look into options trading, I was skeptical but intrigued. I mean, come on - I was a teacher who loved reading and writing, and math wasn’t my favorite subject! I was so far from a Wall Street finance professional that I don’t think it would have been possible to get further away!
Me, learning to trade with my baby by my side.
Teaching Skills vs. Financial Analysis Skills
But here's the thing about being a teacher - we know how to learn, how to plan, and most importantly, how to take things step-by-step. We also know how to break down complex ideas into manageable pieces. Those skills? They turned out to be my secret weapons in the markets.
Every morning before when I approached the stock market, I'd study charts like I used to take courses in college. I paper traded to watch the concepts play out live. And slowly, something magical happened - those mysterious patterns on the charts started making sense. Those complicated options strategies? I began to understand them like I was learning a new world language.
A Drive for Independence
I never would have imagined I’d end up sharing knowledge on national TV!
The first time I made more in one trade than I did in a week of teaching, I realized I was onto something powerful. But it wasn't just about the money. I was discovering something bigger - a way to build real financial freedom while being able to stay home with my child, which was all I cared about.
Here's what I learned: You don't need an Ivy League degree to trade options. What you need is a systematic approach, the willingness to learn from your mistakes, and most importantly, the courage to take that first step.
Think about it - every successful trader started exactly where you are right now. Reading, learning, wondering if they could really do this. The difference between those who make it and those who don't? It's not intelligence or luck. It's having a clear method and the determination to follow it.
From Former Teacher to the Floor of the NYSE
Today, I use the same skills that made me a good teacher to break down complex trading strategies for others, appearing on financial media networks like Fox Business, CNBC, Bloomberg, and Schwab Network. And you know what makes me smile? Knowing that I’m helping people who never imagined themselves on Wall Street, either. Seeing that 'aha' moment in traders' eyes when something finally clicks - it’s just not sixth grade English, anymore!
